AEA – Call for Recruitment
AEA call for recruitment – 1st semester, AY 2026/2027
AEA opens the recruiting for projects and HR teams. Here is the full description of the activities and the requirements.
SAPIENS
Description: SAPIENS is a multidisciplinary project focused on the development of an active robotic hand controlled through electromyographic (EMG) signals. The system is designed to detect muscle activity from the user's forearm, process the acquired signals and translate them into commands for the individual fingers of the robotic hand. The current prototype features five independently actuated fingers, each based on a tendon-driven mechanism (flexed by pulling a high-strength nylon cable, torsion springs provide the elastic return to the open position). Each finger is composed of 3D-printed phalanges.
Requirements: Recruiting: OPEN for Mechanics, Electronics, Signals, Software. Requested effort: One meet per week.
LEG-AID EXOSKELETON
Description: LEG-AID EXOSKELETON is a modular lower-limb exoskeleton open-source project aimed at developing a lightweight and adaptable robotic system for human motion assistance. The project integrates mechanical design, electric actuation, sensing, and control technologies to provide effective and safe assistance across different applications, with a particular focus on human–robot interaction and physical augmentation. The project is divided into three teams: Mechanical, Electronics and Software. The Mechanical Team is responsible for the design and construction of the exoskeleton structure. The Electronics Team is responsible for assembling and wiring the electronic system, integrating sensors, actuators, and cables with the main board. The Software Team processes the signals acquired from the sensors, develops the control algorithms and software required to operate the exoskeleton. The project is currently focused on the development and construction of the hardware and electronic systems. In parallel, the Software team is studying and adapting the existing codebase inherited from the open-source platform, while beginning the first practical tests on the actuators and motors.
Requirements: At the moment, LegExo is not actively recruiting new members. Further opportunities to join the project are expected to become available in the next semester as the first prototype is completed and the project moves towards system integration, testing, and further development.
ARGO
Description: ARGO — Autonomous Robot for Ground Operations.
Requirements: We are looking for experts or people passionate about: Power Electronics, Deep Reinforcement Learning, Localization and Mapping, Simulation environments, Computer Vision, Software Engineering, ROS + Python expert, 3D modelling/animation/design, Partnership Lead (Business). Even if you're just getting started, apply! With ARGO Training, you can join the project, learn by doing, and build your path toward the competitive team.
DRIFT
Description: DRIFT, a project developed under the supervision of Prof. Fagiano, is an actuated system designed to test the stability of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and analyze their response to disturbances of varying nature and intensity. The project stems from the need to simulate the behavior of an autonomous system of this type in a controlled and reproducible environment, providing an alternative to the use of dedicated testing facilities. This approach makes it possible to calibrate, verify, and validate UAV control algorithms under controlled conditions, assessing their ability to maintain stability and effectively respond to external disturbances.
Requirements: Recruiting: OPEN. Preferably from 3rd year of BSc. Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering figures are strongly advised to apply. Requested effort: one meet per week.
DEDALUS
Description: DEDALUS is a project aimed at developing a complete autonomous driving software stack, starting from a simple vehicle model in simulation and growing step by step towards a realistic driving scenario. Perception, planning and control are built as separate modules connected through ROS 2, so the same algorithms can be reused across simulators and later deployed on a small-scale Ackermann robot. The project stems from the need to test autonomous driving algorithms in a controlled and reproducible environment, where scenarios like lane following, obstacle avoidance and interaction with other vehicles can be repeated and evaluated. This allows the full pipeline (from camera, LiDAR and radar perception to motion prediction and model-based control) to be validated before moving to real hardware.
Requirements: Recruiting: OPEN. Preferably last year of BSc or MSc. Automation, Computer, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science profiles are welcome. Sub-teams: Vehicle Model & Control – Perception - Tracking & Planning - Simulation & Integration - Hardware (later phase).
SO-ARM
Description: The project originates from LeRobot, Hugging Face's robotics framework. Originally it allowed to train Imitation Learning policies in a simplified manner. SO-ARM Proposal: The goal is to pivot SO ARM to a long-term AEA project. The current proposal is to set up a Sim-to-Real implementation with SO-101 arms using Isaac Sim.
Requirements: Recruiting: OPEN. Call for team leader. Requested skills: Linux terminal proficiency, preferably experience in similar projects, 3rd year BSc from all backgrounds (even 2nd year if previous experience).
Communication, Events and Companies teams
Description: These teams sit at the core of every company visit and event organized by the association. The Companies team gets in touch with different firms, production and research centers. The Events team is responsible for logistics and the arrangement of other activities, such as meet-ups. The Communication team manages AEA's social media.
Requirements: Recruiting: OPEN. People from any background are welcome. Requested skills: English fluency at intermediate level, good knowledge of social media, willingness to interact with other people.
